If you are in Jowhar and you want to learn to code, you do not have to move or switch languages first. Dugsiiye teaches in Somali: HTML, CSS, JavaScript, React, Node.js, databases, Next.js, React Native, AI engineering and Agentic coding with Claude Code. It is all online, and the videos play on a phone or a laptop.
There are three ways in: the mentored Full Stack AI Engineer program, which runs from HTML through to AI engineering with weekly live sessions, mentor code review and a student community on Discord; individual courses you take at your own pace; and the free full-length courses on YouTube, among them Python, React (22 hours) and SQL. From Somalia, all of it reaches you over the internet: the recorded lessons, the live sessions, code review from your mentor and the Discord community. A phone and a connection are enough to begin.
How to start from Jowhar
- Start with something free. Watch a full course on Dugsiiye on YouTube, Python or the 22 hour React course. It costs nothing.
- Read the starter guide. Learning to code in Somali sets out what to learn first and what follows it. For unfamiliar terms, use the Somali tech glossary.
- Pick a full path. For a mentor and live sessions, join the mentorship. For a single subject, such as React or Node.js, take it from the course list.
Time zone and live sessions
Jowhar and Mogadishu share the same clock, EAT (UTC+3), so the schedule needs no conversion.
Live sessions are weekly and the schedule is announced to enrolled students. The lessons are recorded, so you watch when it suits you.

- Do I need a fast internet connection?
- No. The lessons are recorded video, so you watch while the connection is good and pick up later.
- Can I learn on a phone, or do I need a laptop?
- Both play the videos. Writing code is easier on a laptop.
- How do I pay from Jowhar?
- EVC Plus, ZAAD and Sahal are all at checkout, and you finish the payment on your phone.
- Do I need good English?
- No. The teaching is in Somali. Technical words stay in English, but they are explained in Somali, and the glossary covers the rest.
